What keeps us stuck in business and in life? When we peel back the layers of what may be keeping us stuck, there is typically a FEAR there lurking in the shadows and underlying our behavior and belief patterns. In my coaching work I typically see three categories of fear:
Do you recognize any of these fears? Doing the inner work to peel back the layers in order to pinpoint the fear is hard and often uncomfortable. It's similar to peeling back the layers of an onion. You may face resistance (and tears) along the way. Do the work anyway. You may feel it to be impossible. Keep going deeper. Keep peeling back the layers. Shining light in the darkest places and bringing the fear into conscious awareness allows you to confront the fear, address it, examine it and determine a new way to be. It takes courage to do the work, but in doing so you gain clarity around a path to move forward, beyond the fear. You gain confidence by taking action day by day to move forward and show up in a more positive mindset and space. Harvard Business Review has a great article on fear and how it may affect your career - with four additional categories of fear. Recognize any of these?
So what is it that keeps us stuck? FEAR - also know as False Evidence Appearing Real. Or in other words - a cardboard box of our own making which we can choose to step out of and place in the recycling bin! The moment we CHOOSE to do the work, confront the fear and push past it - that is when we are able to open up and recognize the world of possibility that lies beyond the box. We are always at choice. Never forget this. I'm curious and I'd love to hear from you:

Great blog, thanks Rebecca, I think we go through all 3 fears, repeatedly...or is that just me? I am now quite friendly with all of them though and life is easier!

Dear Rebecca, I completely agree with your article. Fear is a huge emotion that must be reckoned with!

Mine is a fear of regret. I face every decision with this in mind and it automatically takes me out of my heart and into my head because I always think about how I might feel about it in 2, 5, 10, or 20 years. It's mind boggling and when I get fed up with worrying about regret, I rebel by making impulsive decisions that I usually DO regret!! lol
